Whilst the books were closed and the clubs were resting, the education component ramped up at the SSA 12 and under golf championships at Murray Bridge today.
The day started early for Yevin (Queensland male competitor) and Amber (ACT female competitor) as they hit the airwaves at Power FM Radio to talk about their passion for golf and the event itself. Both students excelled!
All students and parents then headed to Unity College to hear Golf Australia High Performance director Brad James talk about the journey from 12 and under to the world golf stages. Students asked many questions about how to improve and parents gained an understanding of the support teams needed and available to them to help their children prosper and grow.
The parents then settled in for a 90 minute session with Golf Australia consultant psychologist Jon Hart on how to support the student athlete as the primary support person. Parents were incredibly engaging and open with their thoughts. They highly valued the session with one parent commenting at the end “thanks for making us feel normal!”
At the same time the students ventured to Monarto open plain zoo to learn about the animals and also volunteer for the day, including picking up after the animals! The white rhinos and giraffes were a big hit.
Day two of the Craig Parry Shield and the final day of competition wraps up tomorrow with a 7.30am tee off and a predicted high of 36 degrees.
