Golf Australia and School Sport Australia have signed an historic Memorandum of Understanding that will take the partnership between the organisations to a new level.
The two-year MOU that began on 1 January 2018 documents key strategies that will help promote and develop golf to all school children across Australia via a clearly defined pathway that offers opportunities for all.
Shaun Hickman, National School Golf Co-ordinator at Golf Australia, was thrilled by the agreement and was on hand at the recent Pacific School Games to sign the document alongside Graeme Jennings, President of School Sport Australia.
“We are very excited about what has been agreed upon within the MOU between School Sport Australia and Golf Australia” Hickman said.
“It gives the two organisations a clear understanding of how we will work together to achieve the common goal to further grow golf via a range clearly defined strategies and initiatives.”
One of the key areas highlighted within the MOU is the further commitment to ensure children from diverse populations and children with a disability have equal opportunity to participate in SSA events.
This is in light of the recent introduction of the 12 Years and Under Boys First Nations Team – a joint initiative between Golf Australia and the PGA of Australia, that competed for the first time at the Pacific School Games.
Nick Mooney, Golf National Secretary for School Sport Australia, said that First Nations initiative was a significant moment in the key golf bodies working more closely together.
“The MOU clearly reflects our willingness to work collaboratively with sporting bodies, in this case Golf Australia, to achieve common goals and provide the best possible experience for the children playing the sport in schools across Australia” Mooney said.
“Our partnership with Golf Australia has continued to grow stronger year by year and we certainly look forward to continue to build on this relationship into the future.”
