School Sport WA take home gold at SSA 15 Years and Under Girls Netball Championships

Games Review

The first match of the day was between NT and TAS, playing in the 7 v 8 game. By three quarter time NT was in the lead by 10, and they finished off with a strong last quarter to hold TAS to 1 goal and win by 19 goals.

QLD and ACT were up next playing for 5th and 6th. QLD played well and held the lead throughout the game, managing to finish with an 8 point win.

VIC and SA played in front of a good crowd for 3rd position. VIC started out strong in the first quarter, but SA managed to come back and level the game. Both teams fought hard, and the lead changed multiple times throughout the second half. In the last minutes of the final quarter, VIC took the lead, extended it to 3 and managed to hold on to the end, cementing their spot in 3rd place.

NSW and WA were last to play in the play off for 1st and 2nd place. WA came out hard and were in front at every break. The third quarter saw them stretch their lead out to 10, and they were able to keep their lead through to the end to finish off the championship with a 7 point win. Congratulations Western Australia!

Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony saw the top 3 teams awarded with their medals, the announcement of the Amy Safe Award winners, as well as the announcement of the All Australian Team.

Amy Safe Award Winners

All players voted after every match for a player from the opposition who had exemplary on court behaviour, outstanding contribution to their team and competent execution of skills. The votes went to the following players:

ACT—Holly Hancox, NSW—Ky-Mani Schwenke, NT—Gabrielle Coffey, QLD—Leesa Mi Mi, SA—Ivy-Rose Hughes, TAS—Georgia Jones, VIC—Ruby Barkmeyer, WA—Katie Te Ao. The overall award winner for the championship was Ivy-Rose Hughes from SA.

All Australian Team

The All Australian Team selected to travel to Fiji in 2017:

Annie Miller, Ky-Mani Schwenke, Dakota Thomas (NSW), Taylah Cox & Leesa Mi Mi (QLD), Caitlin Stanley (SA), Ruby Barkmeyer,  Maddison Ridley (VIC), Sloan Burton, Riley Culnane, Georgia Morgan and Katie Te Ao (WA).
