School Sport Australia (SSA) is pleased to announce that Swimming will be returning to the 2017 Pacific School Games in Adelaide, South Australia.
Swimming events will be held for students aged 10 – 19 years with representation from both Australian states and territories and international delegations.
SSA President Graeme Jennings is thrilled that swimming will again be held in the Matthew Cowdrey Competition Pool at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, as it was such a successful event in 2015.
He noted that Olympic gold medalist Kyle Chalmers and Paralympic gold medalist Tim Disken participated in recent Pacific School Games’ Swimming competitions.
“I am ecstatic that with the support of Swimming SA, we can provide an outstanding opportunity for students to compete on the international stage,” he said.
SwimmingSA Acting Chief Executive Officer Tania Carlino said the organisation is pleased to welcome back swimming for the 2017 Pacific School Games.
“The School Sport Australia Championships and the Pacific School Games are significant events that provide swimming competition opportunities for young athletes at not only a national, but international level.”
“The Games are a great way to showcase swimming in Adelaide’s world-class venue and also inspire younger people to take-up the sport and perhaps strive to become the next Kyle Chalmers or Matt Cowdrey.”
School students from across the world have been invited to participate in the 10th Pacific School Games. PSG is School Sport Australia’s flagship event and one of the world’s biggest school sport experiences.
Golf, Hockey, Netball and Track and Field will join the 2015 sports of Basketball, Diving, Football, Goalball, Softball, Swimming and Touch Football at the 2017 Games.
The Games will be held from December 1 – 10, 2017. It is anticipated that approximately 4,000 students from across the world will attend.
