The 12 Years and Under golf teams hit the course with great intent on day one of the national championship at Murray Bridge Golf Club today.
The Victorian girls team of Jeaneth Wong, Keeley Marx, Claudia Rubtsov and Tiana Wanigasekera blitzed the field on day one to win the teams ambrose event. Their score of 64 was a staggering 7 under par, without handicaps being involved. Queensland finished second on a score of 67 with New South Wales finishing third on 69.
The Queensland Boys 2 team of Harrison Crawley, Yevin Samararatne, Will Ross and Jack Ostler blew through the magical 60 barrier with a score of 59…an amazing 9 under. Queensland Boys 1 were close behind with a score of 60, emphasizing the depth and talent of the maroons this year. The Vic Boys 1 team finished third with a very creditable 7 under score of 61.
Golf Australia had a strong presence on day one helping at the presentations and speeches via National Schools Coordinator Shaun Hickman. Hickman praised the students on their standard of play and finished by handing out a showbag full of golf goodies to all participants.
Day two sees the first round of the Craig Parry Shield get underway at Murray Bridge.
